Prerequisite: Dogs entered in this class need to know basic obedience skills including sit, down, stay, come and controlled loose leash walking.
Description: The American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program was developed to promote responsible dog ownership. A Canine Good Citizen is a dog that is well behaved around people and other dogs both at home and in public. To become a Canine Good Citizen a dog must successfully pass a short test that uses a series of exercises to evaluate a dog's ability to behave in an acceptable manner. Purebred and mixed breed dogs are eligible for AKC CGC certification.
This class will focus on the behaviors that define a Canine Good Citizen, including appropriate response to friendly strangers and other dogs, demonstration of the ability to stay and come, and walking politely and under control with the handler in a variety of situations with a variety of distractions.
Notes: Pre-registration is recommended, the class size is limited to 10 dogs.
